How to Get Gas Gift Cards at a Discounted Price

By Christopher Cross, eHow Contributor Found This Helpful

Although you probably won't get gas for half price, there are ways to get discounted gas gift cards so that you spend less for gas. These small savings can add up over the year.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • Internet connection
  • Credit card

Instructions

  • 1. Buy gas gift cards from websites that sell them for 5 to 20 percent off face value. One such site is ABCGiftcards at abcGiftcards.com. A link to the site is in the References section of this article. This site buys unused gift cards and resells them. You can also trade gift cards, and each transaction is guaranteed.

  • 2. Bid on gas gift cards at up to 70 percent off face value. This is a common practice on eBay. Be aware that this is a very popular method to save money on cards and that they often go for very near face value, if not over it. You may be able to save 5 to 10 percent if you snag a quick deal using the immediate-buy option or buy from a new, untested seller.

  • 3. Explore a "reverse auction" website to take money off a gas gift card. One such site is BidBlink at bidblink.com. A link to the site is in the References section of this article. At these sites, you purchase bids for 10 to 15 cents each and then use your bids to lower the price of an item. On BidBlink, each bid lowers the price by 1 cent. As you and others lower the bid, the price drops. You must add up the bids you used, the final cost of the item and the cost of shipping when determining how much you saved.

  • 4. Receive free gas gift cards using a rewards credit card. There are many out there, you just have to qualify. As you use your card, you will earn points for each dollar that you spend. These points can then be redeemed for gift cards, including gas gift cards.

  • 5. Use a credit card that gives you 5 percent or more off purchases to save on gas. While this isn't an actual gift card, the effect is the same--you save.
