Consumers can obtain free gift cards through in-store and online promotions, by filling out online surveys, by purchasing a certain amount of gift cards at select stores and by redeeming their frequent flyer miles or credit card bonus miles. Companies use these free gift cards as incentives to keep consumers loyal to their products and also to introduce new customers to their products and services. While some of these free gift cards require purchases of other services, online research can help consumers seek out and participate in legitimate offers.

Things You'll Need
  • Computer with Internet access
  • Purchase of gift cards to qualify for other offers
  • Complete online surveys

Instructions

Free Gift Cards from Gift Card Websites

  • 1. Locate online sites that gather together several free gift card offers from popular businesses. These sites will show offers of free gift cards for everything from grocery stores and fast-food restaurants to credit card companies and even social media sites.

  • 2. Click on the link for each free gift card you would like to acquire.

  • 3. Follow the instructions for each gift card offer. Some of these instructions include visiting the websites of other partnered advertisers or filling out online surveys. Most of these offers will require the participant to register to claim the free gift card.

  • 4. Wait for a confirmation email to appear after you register with the site, and complete the tasks required to receive your gift card. Most of these gift cards will be email cards that you can print out and present to participating businesses to claim your free gift. Some businesses will still send actual gift cards through the mail. Once these arrive, follow instructions to activate them, and shop with them as you would any gift card.

Redeem Frequent Flyer Miles

  • 5. Call your credit card company after receiving your most recent balance.

  • 6. Ask the company to switch your frequent flyer miles or credit card bonus points to a gift card. The customer service representative will be able to tell you a list of participating businesses.

  • 7. Wait for your free gift card to arrive in the mail, and use it the way you would any other gift card.

Free Gift Cards During the Christmas Season

  • 8. Watch your local media outlets for deals during the holiday season. Local businesses might run ads offering consumers gift cards once shoppers spend a certain amount of money at the stores, either by purchasing gift cards as holiday gifts or actual merchandise.

  • 9. Ask local businesses if they are running any gift card deals that you might not be aware of, such as for every $100 spent on gift card, you will receive a $25 gift card free.

  • 10. Spend these gift cards as you would spend cash at these establishments.

Tips & Warnings

  • The more searching you do online, the more likely you are to locate free gift cards. It can be a time-consuming activity, but the rewards of even $5 or $10 gift cards can be worth it.

  • Some free gift card websites make consumers complete several tasks before receiving their cards. Though these tasks are clearly stated, some involve making major changes to your finances, such as restructuring loans or transferring credit card balances. Be sure to understand all that is required of you before you go through the process of obtaining free gift cards. Never give websites information you do not feel comfortable giving out, and under no circumstances give out your Social Security number.
